Captain George Washington Arrington, a Texas Ranger, stationed at nearby Fort Elliot, built the home, just down the road from the wild and wooly frontier town of Mobeetie, where he also served as sheriff. The house was ordered from the Van Tein catalog, delivered by railroad, moved in pieces by wagon the last ten miles, and set up on the prairie in 1919.
