Arizona’s Diverse Lands, Waters, and Wildlife

photo of American Wigeon by Bruce TaubertDrawn by abundant herds of elk and deer, and trout fishing in mountain streams, Arizona’s residents and visitors discover native apache trout, crane festivals, and ribbons of riparian-wetland areas with a startling diversity of wildlife viewing opportunities.

This rich tradition of wildlife-related recreation is driven by the nation’s eighth richest vertebrate diversity, but that diversity is imperiled by 70 different stressors identified in Arizona’s Wildlife Action Plan including a rapidly increasing human population, changes to water systems, invasive nonnative species, and the ongoing drought and warming trend. Fortunately, if we invest in the Arizona Wildlife Action Plan today, we can conserve wildlife and vital natural areas for future generations.

A Powerful Coalition to Conserve our Wildlife Heritage

More than 250 organizations and businesses from across Arizona have come together to spread the word about the Arizona Wildlife Action Plan and to secure the funding it needs for success. YOU CAN HELP by joining the coalition, engaging organizations in your community and urging our elected officials to support the federal State Wildlife Grants Program and legislation providing long-term, dedicated funding for wildlife conservation and related education and recreation.
