Louisiana’s Diverse Lands, Waters, and Wildlife

louisiana private landowners Louisiana has 30 percent of the coastal wetlands found in the continental United States and Miller’s Lake alone is the largest wading bird colony in North America, housing some 52,000 nesting pairs of egrets, herons and other species. In total, Louisiana is home to more than 900 vertebrate species, but this spectacular wildlife heritage could be imperiled by eighteen threats identified in Louisiana’s Wildlife Action Plan. Fortunately, if we invest in this proactive plan today, we can conserve Louisiana’s wildlife and vital natural areas for future generations.

A Powerful Coalition to Conserve our Wildlife Heritage

Over a dozen organizations and businesses from across Louisiana have come together to spread the word about the Louisiana Wildlife Action Plan and to secure the funding it needs for success. YOU CAN HELP by joining the coalition, engaging organizations in your community and urging our elected officials to support the federal State Wildlife Grants Program and legislation providing long-term, dedicated funding for wildlife conservation and related education and recreation.
