Nebraska’s Diverse Lands, Waters, and Wildlife

photo of PP nest at DinanNebraska is predominantly a prairie state comprised of tallgrass, mixed grass and shortgrass prairie. Approximately 40 percent of the state is in grasslands, about half of which occur in the Sandhills region, the largest grass-stabilized dune system in the western hemisphere. Nebraska also contains more than 12,000 miles of rivers and streams. Without effective communication and collaboration among public agencies, conservation organizations and private landowners, this remarkable habitat for wildlife could be imperiled. Fortunately, if we invest in the new Nebraska Natural Legacy Project today, we can conserve wildlife and vital natural areas for future generations.

A Powerful Coalition to Conserve our Wildlife Heritage

More than 200 organizations and businesses from across Nebraska have come together to spread the word about the Nebraska Natural Legacy Project and to secure the funding it needs for success. YOU CAN HELP by joining the coalition, engaging organizations in your community and urging our elected officials to support the federal State Wildlife Grants Program and legislation providing long-term, dedicated funding for wildlife conservation and related education and recreation.
