Led by the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands Fish & Wildlife Division, the CNMI Teaming with Wildlife Coalition includes wildlife biologists, hunters & anglers, birdwatchers, nature-based businesses and other conservationists.
Diverse Fish and Wildlife in a Unique Setting
Typical of island ecosystems, most of the terrestrial wildlife species of the Northern Mariana Islands exhibit a high degree of endemism, occurring nowhere else in the world. The marine environment hosts animals both large – like the Green Sea Turtle and the Hawksbill Sea Turtle – and small – including the Shortspine Sea Urchin and the Common Spider Conch. Some animals depend upon both environments; the Wedge-tailed Shearwater, for example, forages at sea, but nests on the tiny islet of Mañagaha. Fortunately, if we invest in the CNMI Comprehensive Wildlife Conservation Strategy today, we can conserve this spectacular wildlife diversity for future generations.
A Powerful Coalition to Conserve our Wildlife Heritage
Organizations across the Commonwealth are coming together to spread the word about the CNMI Comprehensive Wildlife Conservation Strategy and to secure the funding it needs for success. YOU CAN HELP by joining the coalition, engaging organizations in your community and urging our elected officials to support the federal State Wildlife Grants Program and legislation providing long-term, dedicated funding for wildlife conservation and related education and recreation.
