Pennsylvania’s Diverse Lands, Waters, and Wildlife

conserving atlantic sturgeonPennsylvania’s ecosystems include an estuary on the Delaware River, wide agricultural valleys in the southeast, deciduous forests from the central ridges to the mixed forest of the Allegheny high plateau, and glaciated woodlands and wetlands to Lake Erie in the northwest. Pennsylvania is part of six major river basins — Ohio, Lake Erie, Susquehanna, Potomac, Genesee, and Delaware River — and contains numerous wetlands, nearly 4000 lakes and over 83,000 miles of streams and rivers. Sitting at this ecological crossroads means that Pennsylvania plays an important role in conserving many diverse species and habitats. By investing in the Pennsylvania Wildlife Action Plan today, we can conserve wildlife and these vital natural areas for future generations.

A Powerful Coalition to Conserve our Wildlife Heritage

More than 175 organizations and businesses from across Pennsylvania have come together to spread the word about the Pennsylvania Wildlife Action Plan and to secure the funding it needs for success. YOU CAN HELP by joining the coalition, engaging organizations in your community and urging our elected officials to support the federal State Wildlife Grants Program and legislation providing long-term, dedicated funding for wildlife conservation and related education and recreation.
