California's Diverse Lands, Waters, and Wildlife
California's landscape includes deserts, mountain ranges, wetlands, woodlands, and 1,100 miles of coastline, providing habitat for more than 391 birds, 222 mammals, 160 reptiles and amphibians, and 116 freshwater fishes.
Stresses including growth and development, water management conflicts and invasive species have all contributed to the decline in the state’s wildlife. Fortunately, if we invest in the new California Wildlife Action Plan today, we can conserve wildlife and vital natural areas for future generations.
A Powerful Coalition to Conserve our Wildlife Heritage
More than 55 organizations and businesses from across California have come together to spread the word about the California Wildlife Action Plan and to secure the funding it needs for success. YOU CAN HELP by joining the coalition, engaging organizations in your community and urging our elected officials to support the federal State Wildlife Grants Program and legislation providing long-term, dedicated funding for wildlife conservation and related education and recreation.

This bill recognizes that fish and wildlife face a mounting threat from climate change and provides state fish and wildlife agencies with funding to create healthier, more robust wildlife populations and habitats that will be better able to adapt to climate change as an additional stress.
